Faraday bag FAQ

How do I test a Faraday bag?

Faraday Defense’s basic test: seal a phone inside the bag and call it. If the call doesn’t go through, the bag is working. Close the bag the way the model is designed to close; most need a double fold before the hook-and-loop, magnets or clips are fastened, and any opening (even a cable sticking out) can let signal leak in. This test is for the signal-blocking NX3, JACKET and DRY bags. NEST-Z bags are EMP storage bags and don’t block cell signals, so a phone will still ring inside one.

Is airplane mode the same as a Faraday bag?

No. According to Faraday Defense, airplane mode turns signals off in software while the hardware stays active; a sealed Faraday bag blocks signals physically.

What’s the difference between NX3 and JACKET bags?

Both use triple-layer CYBER NC fabric. Faraday Defense describes NX3 as having no outer shell or card pocket, while JACKET bags add a rugged exterior and a card pocket. JACKET Pro bags use CORDURA® nylon and a magnetic closure.

Can I store electronics in a Faraday bag long-term?

Yes. Faraday Defense recommends testing bags used for long-term storage once a year, keeping them dry, and keeping them away from sharp or abrasive objects. For EMP-only storage of spares, NEST-Z bags are heat-sealable and suitable for vacuum packing.

Yes. We ship Canada-wide with FedEx and Canada Post (your choice at checkout). Shipping is free on orders of $250 or more before tax, and orders over $125 get 20% off shipping.
