MIRA Safety FAQ

Which filters fit MIRA masks?

The CM-6M, CM-7M, CM-8M, TAPR and MD-1 all take 40 mm NATO-thread filters (Rd 40 x 1/7″, EN 148-1). One exception to watch: the NBC-17 SOF has shorter threads and does not fit the MB-90 PAPR. Choose the filter for the hazard you expect; our gas mask filter guide explains the ratings.

Is there any situation where a filter mask isn’t enough?

Yes. MIRA Safety states that a mask fitted with a TIC or CWA filter is only safe in air containing at least 19.5% oxygen. Filters clean the air; they don’t add oxygen.

Can I wear a MIRA mask with a beard or glasses?

For a proper seal the face must be smooth and free of facial hair where the mask touches it (CM-6M product page). For glasses, use the spectacle kit listed for your mask: the 3M 6878 kit for the CM-6M or the Scott 804442-01 kit for the CM-7M (both sold separately).

How should I store filters?

Keep them sealed in the manufacturer’s bag until you need them; shelf life applies to unopened filters. For the NBC-17 SOF, MIRA Safety recommends storing unopened filters in a clean place at −5 to +30°C and below 80% relative humidity. Each filter’s shelf life is in the table above.
